CRABBING TOURS

Available Spring – Fall

Crabbing in the Lowcountry can be done from the shore, on a pier, or from a boat using various types of pots, traps, and nets. Although South Carolina is home to fiddler crabs, stone crabs, spider crabs, ghost crabs, and hermit crabs, our hands-on crabbing excursion uses hand lines and dip nets to catch the elusive Atlantic blue crab (Calinectes sapidus.) Despite their Latin translation of “beautiful savory swimmer” they boast a fearsome appearance and aggressive nature, but are easy and fun to catch. Anchored in a shallow creek, we’ll test our luck reeling in crabs and scooping them up over the side of the boat.
